How to do Warrior III

An intermediate balance pose, step by step.

  1. 1Start in Warrior I or standing, weight shifting onto your front (standing) leg.
  2. 2Hinge forward from the hips, reaching the chest forward as the back leg lifts.
  3. 3Bring the torso and lifted leg toward parallel with the floor, forming one long line.
  4. 4Reach the arms forward, back alongside the body, or out like wings.
  5. 5Flex the lifted foot and keep the hips level, gaze down a few feet ahead.

Alignment tips

  • Square the hips to the floor — don't let the lifted hip open upward.
  • Keep a micro-bend in the standing knee rather than locking it.

How do I balance in Warrior III?
