WALL FIT CALCULATOR

Enter your available wall space and we'll show you which standard poster sizes fit — in portrait or landscape orientation.

Pro Tip

Your poster should cover 60–75% of the wall width or the furniture below it. Measure from the top of your sofa, desk, or bed to where you want the top of the poster — that's your available height.

Enter your wall dimensions above to see which poster sizes fit.

How it works — example

For a wall space of 80 × 120 cm (31.5 × 47.2 inches), poster sizes up to 24×36 inches (61 × 91.4 cm) fit in portrait orientation. A 16×24 inch (40.6 × 61 cm) poster would cover roughly 50% of the wall width — ideal for above a desk or bedside table. A 24×36 inch poster would cover 76% of the width, which suits a feature wall. Both orientations (portrait and landscape) are checked automatically.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the standard poster sizes?
The most common poster sizes are 8×12 inches (20×30 cm), 16×24 inches (40×60 cm), 24×36 inches (60×90 cm), and 27×40 inches (69×102 cm, the classic movie poster). ISO A-series sizes like A3 (11.7×16.5 inches) and A2 (16.5×23.4 inches), defined by the ISO 216 standard, are also widely used, especially in the UK and Europe. UK-specific sizes include Double Crown (20×30 inches) and Quad Crown (30×40 inches), traditionally used for cinema and advertising posters.
What size is an A1 poster in cm?
An A1 poster is 59.4 × 84.1 cm (23.4 × 33.1 inches). It is the second-largest A-series size after A0 and a popular choice for gig posters, film posters, and large format wall art.
What size is an A2 poster in cm?
An A2 poster is 42 × 59.4 cm (16.5 × 23.4 inches). It is the most common art print size in the UK and slots into standard off-the-shelf frames.
What size is an A3 poster in inches?
An A3 poster measures 11.69 × 16.54 inches (29.7 × 42 cm). It sits between US letter size and tabloid, making it a popular choice for prints and smaller wall art.
What size is an A4 poster in cm?
An A4 poster is 21 × 29.7 cm (8.3 × 11.7 inches) — the same size as standard UK and European office paper, and the smallest size typically used for wall art.
What size is an A0 poster in cm?
An A0 poster is 84.1 × 118.9 cm (33.1 × 46.8 inches). It covers 1 square metre and is the largest A-series size, usually used for cinema one-sheets and trade-show displays.
What size is a 24×36 poster in cm?
A 24×36 inch poster is 61 × 91.4 cm. This is the standard US movie and concert poster size and the largest size SpicyEditions prints.
What size is an 18×24 poster in cm?
An 18×24 inch poster is 45.7 × 61 cm. It is a common US art print and photography display size, roughly between A2 and A1.
What size is a 16×20 poster in cm?
A 16×20 inch print is 40.6 × 50.8 cm. It is a standard US photo frame size, slightly smaller than A2.
What is the most common poster size?
The most common poster size worldwide is 24×36 inches (61×91 cm). This is the standard size for movie posters, concert posters, and decorative prints. In the UK, A2 (16.5×23.4 inches) is also very popular for art prints.
How do I choose the right poster size for my wall?
A good rule of thumb is that your poster should be 60–75% of the width of the wall or the furniture it hangs above. For a wall section 80 cm wide, a 40×60 cm (16×24 inch) poster works well. Use our wall fit calculator above to check which standard sizes work for your space.
What size frame do I need for my poster?
Your frame should match the exact dimensions of your poster. If you want a mat (also called a mount or passepartout), buy a frame one size larger and add a mat board — the Fine Art Trade Guild recommends a minimum mat border of 5 cm (2 inches). For example, an 8×12 inch print can go in an 11×14 inch frame with a mat, or directly in an 8×12 inch frame without one.
How do I convert poster sizes from inches to centimetres?
Multiply the measurement in inches by 2.54 to get centimetres (this conversion factor is defined by the international yard and pound agreement of 1959). For example, 24 inches × 2.54 = 60.96 cm. To convert from centimetres to inches, divide by 2.54. Our converter tool at the top of this page does this instantly for any dimensions.
What poster sizes does SpicyEditions offer?
SpicyEditions Bollywood-style art prints come in three sizes: 8×12 inches (20×30 cm) from £19.99, 16×24 inches (40×60 cm) from £25.99, and 24×36 inches (60×90 cm) from £39.99. Framing is available for the 8×12" and 16×24" sizes.
What is the best poster size for a bedroom?
For a typical bedroom, 16×24 inches (40×60 cm) or A3 (11.7×16.5 inches) works well above a bedside table or desk. Above a bed headboard, go larger with 24×36 inches (60×90 cm) or a pair of smaller prints side by side.
Do I need a mat or mount for my poster frame?
A mat (also called a mount in the UK) adds a border between the print and the frame edge. It gives the artwork breathing room, protects the print from touching the glass, and makes smaller prints feel more substantial. It is not required but looks more polished for art prints.
What is the difference between portrait and landscape poster orientation?
Portrait orientation is taller than it is wide (e.g. 24×36 inches upright), while landscape is wider than tall (36×24 inches on its side). Most art prints and movie posters use portrait orientation. Our wall fit calculator checks both orientations automatically.
